Useful tips about working with text and fonts

Changing fonts and colors - If you are using a template, our advice would be to NOT change your fonts and colors in the text editor. The reason behind this is simple. Your designer has already pre-styled the page for you. Any text left un-styled in the editor would be transformed into matching, styled text on the front end of your website. So for example, if you are seeing Black Times New Roman text in your editor and saying "Yuck!", have no fear. View the page from your front end and you'll see that the text has already magically been transformed into fonts and colors that match and coordinate with the rest of your site design.

Fancy Fonts - Just don't. Did you know that if you choose a fancy font name from the drop down box, and your visitor doesn't have that font installed on their computer, they won't even see it? Chances are that instead, they'll see some over-sized ugly alternative like gigantic Arial letters. A professional looking site should be easy to read, not distracting, and the text/fonts should match throughout the site. As mentioned in the above paragraph, if you are using a template, your site is probably already pre-styled. Our advice would be to just leave the font alone and let the style sheet style it for you.

Tables can be very helpful for creating color charts, fabric swatch charts, or other groups of information you want to organize in an orderly fashion. HTML tables are made up of rows, columns, and individual cells. The following tutorials will guide you on how to created, format, and style your tables.

Copying and pasting from other sources - Microsoft Word and other third-party word processors were not intended for the web and they do contain some proprietary codes which can interfere with your template and page coding, as well as leave funny-looking characters on your pages such as little "diamond question marks". If you must copy and paste from other sources, please use this tip to remove the formatting beforehand.
1) Copy the text by selecting it with your mouse and hitting CTRL+C (Copy).
2) Open a plain text editor on your computer - Windows users can find Notepad by clicking Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
3) Now Paste the text into Notepad by hitting CTRL+V (Paste). This will clear all the formatting.
4) Now copy all the text again, by selecting all the text and hitting CTRL+C again (Copy).
5) Now Paste this unformatted text into your web page by putting your cursor onto the page and hitting CTRL+V (Paste).
