I just arrived here on Shoppe Pro, hi!

I have been playing around with a program that I've used for a few years for all my print ads, business cards, etc.  It has the ability to design my own web site.  I had designed a web template that I am pretty happy with but I'm having trouble getting it uploaded to my site.  I have looked at the tutorials, but they show "How To's" for specific programs.  The one I am using is Art Explosion Publisher Pro (AEPP) and is less known, I guess.  I have tried to relate the steps that I have seen in the different tutorials to the steps in AEPP.  I get all the way through the steps up to where I should be able to see my template on my site, but it's not there.

I'm not sure if I'm entering the correct info because every program seems to have different terminology.
1)  It says to "type the FTP address of the web server."  Is this the same as the "Server IP" that was given to me under "New Account Info" in the store setup Email?

2)  Then they ask me for my user name and password.  Am I correct in assuming this info is also the same as the info listed under "New Account Info" from that same email?

3)  Then it says "Type the complete path in the folder box as specified by your provider."  HUH? I put in my domain address http://thelittlebrownbird.com   I'm thinking this might be where I've gone wrong?  Because according to AEPP, I should be able to see the change on my site immediately.

4)  It then says "In your browser, type the URL including the path to the host server plus the folder to which you published and view the site from the server."  What?

Can anyone help shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary, first of all WELCOME! Glad to see you here!

I have never heard of that software before.  But unfortunately, their method of uploading a site is not going to work with our software.  The HTML editing software you are using at home is probably designed to put up a standalone website with no CMS (Content Management Software).  Hope that makes sense.  Anyway, their upload method is not going to do you any good when it comes to installing a template for our CMS.

The HTML in your template has to be modified to include the "Include Codes" used by our content management software.  Once you have the HTML modified, you would simply highlight the HTML code from your template you created, and paste it into the Custom Template box in your store admin.

Here's the Forum Article about creating your own template:

Be forewarned though, that creating a template is not for the light hearted or the beginner.  You need to have some basic knowledge of HTML if you want to build your own template.

I know, I do understand "some" HTML, I thought.  LOL!  But this is taking much more effort and time than I wanted to waist.  But in looking at all the wonderful premade templates out there, I haven't found any that really reflect the personality that I want for my site.  They are all very nice, some are really, really pretty!  But they all seem to follow the same formula, just with differnt colored polk-a-dots, if you know what I mean.

Are there any designers that are willing to do something a tad different for a custom site?

How about this, can you send me the files and graphics for what you have created so far and I'll see what I can do with it to help you out?  Just email what you have to support@shoppepro.comSmiley

Also, I was going to mention for designers,

http://www.retroboutiques.com does a really fantastic job, some really unique stuff, but I'm not sure if she's taking jobs right now.  There are some others that do fantastic custom jobs.  Just follow of the links on our designers page.
