View Full Version : Information Only site, along with a photo gallery

I'm a cake decorator, and in serious need of a website!

My site will be information based only, and I need a photo gallery to showcase my work.

Is it fairly easy to eliminate the shopping cart portion of the site, and add-on a photo gallery?

And, if I purchase a template from a designer (I have several I am agonizing over!), if I've eliminated the shopping cart parts on the ShoppePro end, when the designer uploads the template, will it just fill in around what I've done? Even though their template has all kinds of extra links shown in the sample?

I've searched the forums, and have seen several references to an "add-on" for $15, but can't find a link so I can check out the add-on.

Thanks SO much! I'm eager to get started!

Hello! :) You should check with your designer about removing the shopping cart portions of the template. You won't need to do anything on your end. You will just use pages instead of categories :)

As for the photo gallery, here is the link: http://www.shoppepro.com/item_21/Photo-Gallery--Add-Flash-Gallery.htm

Hope that helps!

You can also do a wordpress only site, they have some awesome gallery plugins, just host it here and you can have it installed.

I looked at the WordPress option (not long, but I did look!), but I've fallen in love with a template that I found.

I've been playing around with the site demo, and it is hard to tell because the demo is not fully operational............

But can I simply remove the shopping cart links? And in doing so, would they be removed from the template as well?

The shopping cart links are built into the template for the most part. It is really going to depend on the template you choose. For example (using my templates as samples):

This template doesn't have reference to the cart anywhere so you wouldn't have to do anything if you purchase a template like this:

This template has an "image" for the cart that I would have to remove:

Does that make sense?

Yes - that does make sense!

But aside from the cart image - several of the templates I have looked at have a bar down the side of the page, (much like yours), that have "category" "category" "category" or "page link" "page link" "page link".........

Depending on the "words" I use - does something like "page link" become "about me" if that is what I call that section?

Or, even on your Skip to my Lou template - the tabs at the top - is that something I specify to you (the tab words) when I would order? Or is that something, that by changing something with the ShoppePro software, the words change?

I'm so lost!

Yes you can name the pages ("page link") anything you want. And I guess you would need the the "category" section removed since you wouldn't be using it (again something your designer would need to edit out of your template) :)

On skip to my loo those are tabs that would have to be changed by me. Every template is a little different. But since its actually part of an image, that can't be changed in the shoppepro software. Typically on a designers sample the "page link" and "category link" are what you edit in the software by adding pages and categories. Are you even more confused now? ::)

Thanks so much!

I did contact the creator of the template I fell in love with - the changes I'm after are fairly minimal, and she has suggested changing the "Boutique" header to "Galleries" and then the links would go to the gallery pages.

Does anybody operate the $15 gallery?

I know in my head how I want it to work (sigh - the head is always way ahead of the rest of me) :P

I want to have about 5 sections in the gallery - one for wedding cakes, carved cakes, special occasion cakes, and so on. Is it possible to do that with this gallery?

I really appreciate those of you answering my questions on a Friday night!!

Typically on a designers sample the "page link" and "category link" are what you edit in the software by adding pages and categories

The lightbulb has come on!! NOW I understand better.

The Gallery is just a stand alone page like this: http://sleepyheadsatin.com/gallery.htm

You wouldn't be able to do one per "gallery" unless you created one with a third party software of some sort.

I don't know if this would work for you but you COULD use categories, and add each gallery image as an "item" for $0 so there is no order button like I did here for the fabric (notice it's not for sale) http://institchesshop.com/category_17/Available-Fabrics.htm

Ah - but is it possible, if I purchase the gallery, to have more than one set up? Meaning, behind the scenes, there would be 5 separate gallery links?

Let's see if I can explain it:

The template I want has a series of photo "rollovers" at the bottom. Each photo would be one from my various cake photo categories.

If I have, say, all my wedding cake photos on one page, set up like the page you linked me to, and had that page link under the cake photo, and then had all my special occasion cakes set up on a different page link - does that make sense?

Or would I need to purchase "5" galleries to do that?

Here's an example of the kind of idea I'd like to do:

You could do that on the gallery page, have multiple "albums" sure :) It would be like the wildcakes link you sent :)

I just registered with ShoppePro..............now to sit back and wait for my set-up to begin!
